‘Passengers can take city buses to commute to and from temporary bus station’

The Coimbatore Division of Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) on Thursday commenced special bus services to aid passengers, who travel from Coimbatore to other cities during Deepavali holidays.

Coimbatore South MLA Amman K. Arjunan flagged off two air-conditioned special buses to Salem and one AC bus to Tiruchi. TNSTC officials said that ₹190 was the fare for the AC bus from Coimbatore to Salem.

According to officials, a temporary bus station will be operational on CODISSIA Grounds from Friday morning from where special buses will conduct services to Salem side. Passengers can also get buses to Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Erode and Tiruvannamalai from the temporary bus station.

“This arrangement will avoid the special buses entering city and causing traffic snarls. Passengers can take city buses to commute to and from the temporary bus station,” said an official.

Mobile toilets have also been placed at the temporary bus station for the passengers. Officials said that the passenger flow will increase from Friday when the special services will be fully operational.

Special buses to Madurai, Chennai, Theni, Tiruchi and Tiruppur (via Palladam) will be operated from Singanallur bus stand. While buses to Tiruppur (via Avinashi Road), and Erode will be operated from the mofussil bus stand at Gandhipuram, services to Pollachi, Palani and Dindigul will be operated from Ukkadam bus stand.

The State Express Transport Corporation will conduct its regular services to various destinations including Chennai from Thiruvalluvar bus stand (Inter-State bus terminus) at Gandhipuram from where services to Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh are also available.
