The District Rural Police have booked six persons on the charge of harassing a woman.
According to the police, there was a dispute between a 36-year-old woman, residing at Kanuvaipalayam near Karamadai, and Sundaramoorthy, her neighbour, over the use of a common pathway. Following this, Sundaramoorthy and five others allegedly trespassed into her house.
A heated argument broke out between them and Sundaramoorthy and his friends had allegedly misbehaved with the woman with an intent to outrage her modesty.
Following a direction from the Mettupalayam Judicial Magistrate Court, the Karamadai Police registered a case on Monday against Sundaramoorthy and the five others.
Sections 147 (rioting), 294(b)(utter obscene words in public), 447 (criminal trespass), 435 (mischief by fire or explosive substance), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 506 (ii)(criminal intimidation with threat be to cause death) of the Indian Penal Code read with Section Four of the Tamil Nadu Women Harassment Act have been invoked.
