Six bonded labours found working at a brick kiln unit in Karachikorai in Bhavanisagar were rescued by revenue officials here on Tuesday.

Based on a tip off, a team led by Gobichettipalayam Revenue Divisional Officer S. Govindaraj, officials from labour department and other revenue officials inspected the unit.

They found Ganesan (40), Kamatchi (30), Kaliappan (32), Jaya (20), Sambandam (60), Lakshmi (52), all from Nagapattinam district, working at the unit for the last one year.

Inquiries revealed that they were paid in advance by the unit owner and wage was not paid regularly.

All the six were taken for medical examination at Government Hospital in Sathyamangalam.

They were provided initial assistance and were sent to their native place. Officials said that case would be registered against the unit owner.
