If there are periods when the water level in the Siruvani Reservoir goes up and not down, they are this season – southwest monsoon and northeast monsoon.

But somehow this southwest monsoon season the water level continues to dip as the Siruvani catchments has not received enough rains. Or so it appears from the water level readings. As of June 17, the water level has dipped to less than nine feet and stands at 8.85 feet.

A week ago, the water level was 10.76 feet. Coimbatore Corporation sources say they are keeping tab of the situation on a daily basis. As of Wednesday the level at 8.85 feet was more than last year’s 2.49 feet.

But then the situation improved drastically, the catchments received heavy rains by the third week. This year too it could be a repeat of the situation, they said and added that the Corporation was drawing up alternative plans.
