Seminar on placement opportunities at BU today

The Department of Statistics of Bharathiar University will conduct a placement workshop on “Career in Statistics” on February 21. According to a release, Mayor S.M. Velusamy will be the chief guest.

Special address

He will deliver a special address to the students on employment opportunities. He will also release the conference proceedings.

Vice-Chancellor C. Swaminathan will preside over the function.

Resource persons from software industries and educational institutions will deliver talks on placement opportunities.

The School of Economics

The School of Economics of Bharathiar University will conduct a national level seminar on “Environment and Sustainable Development – Indian Perspective” here on February 23 and 24.

According to a release, Paul P. Appasamy, Vice-Chancellor of Karunya University, will inaugurate the seminar. Resource persons from Madras School of Economics, Institute of Social and Economic Change, Institute of Economic Growth, and Madras Institute of Development Studies, will handle the sessions and deliver talks on climate change, biodiversity, water management and forest ecosystem. As many as 300 participants are expected to attend the seminar.

Department of Botany

The Department of Botany of Bharathiar University will organise a workshop on “Man and Medicinal Plants” on February 23 and 24.

According to a release, K. Nirmal Babu, Principle Scientist, Indian Institute of Spices' Research, Calicut, will inaugurate. S. Manian, Head of the Department, and Director of Life Sciences, of the university, will preside over the function.

The inaugural function will be followed by lectures on various fields of medicinal plant research by scientists and academicians.

Lectures will focus on traditional system of medicinal plants. It will include topics on bioprospecting of medicinal plant resources in India, herbal drug and human health, conservation and agro- technology of herbals, besides others.

Department of Computer Application

The Department of Computer Application of Bharathiar University will organise a workshop on “Optimisation Techniques for Image Processing” on March 9 and 10. According to a release, the main focus of the workshop will include research-oriented lectures on optimisation techniques such as genetic and evolutionary computation, and swarm Intelligence for various fields of image processing such as pattern recognition and medical image analysis.
