Seized properties burgled

Hundreds of inner garments, saris, dhotis and shirts that were seized and kept safe in a warehouse based on a court direction in an economic offence case have been burgled. The police, who registered a case based on complaint from the Sulur Tahsildar, said that the dress materials and Rs. 5,000 in cash could have been burgled between February 2014 and June 2015.

The TANPID court in Coimbatore had ordered the seizure of properties. They were kept in the warehouse of the accused of the case under the seal and custody of the Tahsildar in February last year.

Man commits suicide

G. Raveendran (52) of Mannarkadu, Kottayam, committed suicide in front of a lodge, opposite the Railway Junction, on Tuesday. The Race Course police said that after leaving his home on June 18, he had gone to a few places and on Tuesday morning resorted to the extreme step by slitting his wrists with a blade.

The police said that he was found lying in a pool of blood by the lodge workers, who informed them.

Based on phone numbers in the shirt pocket, the police established that the deceased was from Mannarkadu and using the local police’s help ascertained his identity. The police said that severe loss in textile business could have forced Raveendran to end his life.

Convict prisoner dies

K. Akbhar Basha (55), a convict prisoner at the Coimbatore Central Prison, succumbed to illness at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital on Monday. According to the Race Course police, the prison authorities had given him first aid after he complained of wheezing trouble. They then rushed him to the Hospital, where he died.

Contractor arrested

The Ramanathapuram police arrested contractor Muthuraja on the charge of negligence that resulted in the death of construction worker P. Munusamy of Uthangarai, Krishnagiri, on Monday night. The police said that while Munusamy was engaged in plastering work, a portion of concrete wall fell on him and he died on the spot. The police had registered a case and arrested the contractor.

Ends life

M. Sathish (19) of Coonoor Road, Ooty, committed suicide by hanging at the hostel of a private college in K.G. Chavadi on Monday night. The K.G. Chavadi police said that his friends had rescued and rushed him to a hospital but he was declared dead on arrival.
