Security drill for President’s visit to Coimbatore

He is to award the President’s Standard to Squadron 25 and Squadron 33 of the Indian Air Force.

To ensure that security is foolproof during President Pranab Mukherjee’s visit to the city on Monday and Tuesday, senior district administration and police officials conducted review meetings on Sunday.

The President is in the city to award the President’s Standard to Squadron 25 and Squadron 33 of the Indian Air Force.

Inspector General of Police, West Zone, T.P. Sundaramoorthy took stock of the situation and reviewed the arrangements with Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore, E.S. Uma, deputy superintendents of police, and Deputy Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore City, T. Senthilkumar.

District Revenue Officer K. Karpakam also participated in the meeting.

The State Government’s Special Branch sleuths are also in the city to sterilise the areas the President would stay and visit. The city police also pressed into service the bomb squad personnel and canine sleuths. They also carried out a convoy rehearsal under the supervision of City Police Commissioner A.K. Viswanathan.

The convoy rehearsal threw traffic out of gear on Avinashi Road, from the airport to the Circuit House.

In Sulur, the local body there stepped up its conservancy work.
