The scope for students specialising in foreign trade is high as there is a need for personnel who know matters of trade, Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitharaman said here on Friday.

She inaugurated the new building of the School of Commerce of PSG College of Arts and Science. The Minister said the institute offered commerce courses with specialisation in areas such as retail marketing, cost accountancy, chartered accountancy, and computer. Indian trade service is a growing field. Students should specialise in foreign trade. In the globalised world, to prove dumping of products and to invoke safeguard duties there is a need for people who know matters of trade. There are some products that are dumped even by smaller countries. But there is a shortage in availability of those specialising in foreign trade. The subject has bright future, she said.

L. Gopalakrishnan, Managing Trustee of PSG & Sons Charities, said the Department of Commerce was established in 1969. The founders of PSG & Sons had chosen education as a tool for social transformation.

According to a press release from the institute, the new block is designed with a total area of 2.75 lakh sq.ft. It has 85 classrooms, four computer laboratories, and two conference halls.
