Sand lorry owners to deliver M-sand for ₹4,000

Members of Salem District Combined Sand Lorry Owners Association on Saturday said that from September 1, they would deliver a load of M-sand for ₹4,000 and P-sand for ₹4,750. The association has also decided to detain and handover to officials vehicles, which are overloading.

M. Kannayan, district secretary of the organisation told presspersons, “due to unavailability of river sand, both lorry owners and the construction industry is severely affected here. The livelihood several lakhs of employees has been affected.” He added that the State government to overcome the present crisis should settle the public interest litigations in courts regarding sand mining at the earliest.

The association alleged that the PILs regarding sand mining are not being filed by nature enthusiasts but by illegal sand miners since the government took over sand mining and delivery of load through online. Mr. Kannayan said that the cost of one unit of river sand has gone up to ₹14,000.

Mr. Kannayan said that M-sand would be bought from crushers for ₹3000 and P-sand for ₹3,750.

He added that a six-wheel truck would carry two units of the material while 10-wheel truck would carry three units.

The association members said that any lorry carrying beyond the permissible limit would be detained and handed over by them to the respective authorities.
