Recharge of groundwater will help residents meet water requirement till summer

The recent rain and seepage water from Lower Bhavani Project (LBP) canal led to the tank at Sadayampalayam filled to the brim. Residents are hopeful that the recharge of groundwater will help them meet their water requirement till summer.

The tank, spread across 7 acre, was beautified by the Corporation at ₹ 2.5 crore two years ago, after which it is being maintained properly. The main source of water for the tank is the seepage from the LBP canal from October to January. Also, the recent rain led to copious inflow into the tank.

The residents said that groundwater used to get recharged in October and November. “The tank helps recharge open wells and borwells in 10 km to 15 km radius,” said Kuppannan, a farmer. He added that water shortage would not arise in the area till summer as the tank served as a major source for recharging.

Availability of water in the area is seen as a main factor that led to development of many residential colonies. “Since the Outer Ring Road that connects with Thindal passes here, motorists can enjoy the picturesque sight of the tank for the next four months,” said Raja of Rangampalayam. He said creation of park and recreation facilities near the tank would invite visitors to the area.
