‘RWH structures compulsory for building plan approvals’

Salem Corporation Commissioner R.Sadheesh stated that rainwater harvesting (RWH) structures were mandatory for building plan approvals in the Corporation limits.

Mr. Sadheesh inaugurated awareness campaigns on rainwater harvesting at Thirumal Nagar near Sooramangalam here on Saturday.

According to a release, the Corporation has set up RWH structures at 204 Corporation buildings and they are being well maintained. The Commissioner has also ordered the engineering division staff to inspect the RWH structures at buildings under its limits and to check whether they are maintained.

There are 676 government buildings, 940 industrial units, 23,206 commercial spaces and 1,72, 568 residential buildings in the Corporation limits.

Mr. Sadheesh said, in the release, that in future, property tax assessments would be conducted only after the engineering division ensured that RWH structures had been set up in the building.
