With hundreds of students from various parts of The Nilgiris participating enthusiastically, a two-day science exhibition organised under the aegis of the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), which opened here on Tuesday, generated a great deal of interest among visitors.
Scientific talent
R.Ramachandran, Additional Project Coordinator, RMSA, said that the objective was to provide a forum for students to nurture science and explore and encourage scientific and technological talent.
Pointing out that students from about 126 schools including 87 government schools are showcasing their talent, he said that the event had provided them with an excellent opportunity to exchange notes. The winning exhibits would figure in a State level competition.
While judge N.Saravana of the Breeks Memorial School observed that the level of awareness among rural children was strikingly high, V.Monisha and G.Vishali, Standard IX students of the Government Higher Secondary School in Anikorai, said that technology had made it possible for them to be as good or even better than the students in the urban areas.
Inspiration
Earlier, The Nilgiris Collector P.Shankar, who inaugurated the exhibition, said that from science point of view there was no dearth of inspiration for the younger generation in India as since yore the country had shown the way in inventions.
