RTE Act fees: Rs. 5.69 cr sought for Coimbatore schools

The officials from the Directorate of Matriculation Schools have submitted a claim for Rs. 5.69 crore towards reimbursement of fee to private schools in Coimbatore that have admitted students under the Right to Education (RTE) Act. Coimbatore, which has the largest number of private schools, has 275 private schools of which 34 are minority-run institutions and The Nilgiris has 63 matriculation schools, including 12 minority institutions. The minority schools are exempted from the Act.

Official sources said that this included a break-up of Rs. 1.65 crore for 2013-14 academic year and Rs. 4.04 crore for 2014-2015. However, they added that these claims would be further scrutinised.
