In the absence of drainage facility at residential areas in Rangampalayam, sewage mixed with rainwater continues to stagnate along the roads.

Hundreds of new houses have come up in Rangampalayam where basic amenities, including drainage and street lights, are still lacking. Residents, whose houses are located along Chennimalai Road near the private hospital, said that in the absence of drainage facility, sewage flows on the road and gets stagnated.

“The recent rain has worsened the situation as water stagnates in large quantity at the end of the street,” said a resident.

The residents said that though the issue was taken up with the Corporation officials, no action was taken so far.

They urged the authorities to construct drainage channels.

They expressed fear that the stagnant water may turn into a breeding place for mosquitoes, leading to outbreak of diseases. Sanitation was a major concern in the areas and the officials should focus on it, they added.
