The 58{+t}{+h}International Week of the Deaf observance organised by Deaf Empowerment Activities For Literacy, Education, Accessible Development, Employment, Rehabilitation and Sports (DEAF Leaders) Foundation commenced recently with an awareness programme on sign language called, “We tell you to learn sign language.”
The programme was aimed at motivating people to learn sign language just as they would a foreign language.
On October 4, an awareness rally will be organised at Race Course.
On October 5, a sign language competition will be conducted for hearing and speech impaired students of Sankara College on their college premises. Conversation in sign language and self introduction will be part of the competition.
The following day a similar competition will be organised for a section of the students of PSG Arts and Science College who underwent a two month add on course on sign language.
Certificates will also be distributed to those who completed the course.
This initiative is supported by Christoffel Blindenmission (CBM), in association with the Department of Physiology of PSG Arts and Science College and Sankara College of Arts and Science.
