Heavy rain battered Udhagamandalam, Gudalur and Pandalur towns on Tuesday resulting in inundation of roads, and uprooting of trees at various places.

According to sources, Udhagamandalam town recorded 31 mm rainfall, Glenmorgan 44 mm and Naduvattam 100 mm.

Traffic was blocked on Churchill Road near Pudumund following a tree fall. Another tree fell onto a power line, following which personnel from the Fire and Rescue Services Department cleared the road.

A lorry carrying around 200 LPG cylinders, parked along the road near St. Thomas Church, plunged 20 ft below into an open drain due to a minor landslip. No one was injured.

Another lorry almost plunged into Ketti Valley after the driver lost control of the vehicle while descending from the Valley View Junction.
