Rain brings needed respite from heat

Sharp showers in the city and surrounding areas provided much-needed respite from the heat for the people on Wednesday.

In the last 24-hours that ended at 8.30 a.m. on Wednesday, Coimbatore district recorded a total rainfall of 140.50 mm and the The Nilgiris recording 679 mm rainfall.. In Coimbatore, the rain had only been in plains not benefiting the catchments of various reservoirs.

Coimbatore South recorded the highest of 24 mm, followed by Periyanaickenpalayam 20.

In Udhagamandalam heavy rain has been playing spoilsport forcing the tourists, who had thronged the hill station for summer vacation, to stay indoor.
