Coimbatore Railway Junction sees heavy rush of passengers on any given day.

Railways has turned down many requests for more trains citing inadequate facilities in Coimbatore.

Coimbatore has not seen any major infrastructure improvement in the last two decades though there is an exponential rise in the number of passengers, says Mr. Raveendran.

Terminal facilities, yard, and pit line improvements are affected because the Coimbatore Railway Junction is land locked. Repeated pleas to acquire the land belonging to the Food Corporation of India near North Coimbatore Railway Station have not materialised so far.

Optimum use of land available at Podanur, Irugur, and Coimbatore North too has not been done, added Mr. Nagaraj.

At least some of the trains should be allotted stops at Irugur, Singnallur, Peelamedu or Coimbatore North so as to bring down the heavy rush at Coimbatore Railway Junction, says Jameel Ahmed of Coimbatore Rail Users Association.

The vast extent of railway land available at Mettuppalayam should be used to create more facilities.

Salem Railway Division officials say more facilities will soon be created soon.
