Heavy rain in Kerala resulted in submerging of railway track on the Kanjikode - Walayar section on Thursday.

Heavy rain in Kerala resulted in submerging of railway track on the Kanjikode - Walayar section on Thursday.

The railway track between Kanjikode and Walayar has submerged owing to intensive South-West monsoon over Kerala.

The ‘A’ track from which the trains are operated towards Kerala from Coimbatore is submerged in a few places.

It is virtually hanging due to soil erosion as rainwater flows above the track. Hence, the track has been closed for traffic since Wednesday night.

All the trains bound for Kerala and returning towards Coimbatore were being operated through the ‘B’ track with a minimal delay from 10 minutes to half an hour, said railway officials attached to the Palakkad division of the Southern Railway on Thursday. Efforts were on to rectify the soil erosion, the officials said.
