Protests, processions, fast, and mass prayers marked the agitation here on Sunday against the Supreme Court verdict permitting entry of women of all ages into the Ayyappa temple at Sabarimala.

Around 50 workers of Hindu Makkal Katchi were detained and removed by the police when they staged a protest at Gandhi Park against the verdict. They had not obtained permission from the police.

Members of Shiv Sena took out a procession from Gadhipuram to the Ayyappa temple at Siddhapudur where they offered prayers. Around 100 people, including women and children, took part. At Singanallur, a joint forum of Ayyappa devotees staged a fast near the Uzhavar Sandhai. A mass prayer organised by Akhil Bharatiya Ayyappa Seva Sangham was also held.

On Sunday evening, Ayyappa devotees took out a rally from Patha Vinayakar temple, Marappalam, to Lakshmi Narayana Alayam, Madukkarai.
