Protest against dumping garbage in village

Stating that dumping of garbage in their village was causing sanitation issue, people of Pallathur at Vaniputhur Town Panchayat in Gobichettipalayam Taluk staged a road block here on Saturday.

Over 500 houses are located in the village that is near the surplus water canal of Gunderipallam reservoir.

They said that garbage collected from households, medical waste, poultry waste and other wastes are dumped along the canal causing sanitation issue. They said that apart from bad odour emanating from the garbage, bees and other insects from the garbage also enter the village and affect the people.

Also, water stagnates in front of the primary school in the area affecting the children, they said.

They added that despite the issue being taken up with the officials concerned, no action was taken so far. They wanted the dumping to be stopped, stagnated water to be cleared and ensure sanitation.

Later, police and officials assured to look into their demands after which the protest was withdrawn after an hour.
