Residents of Sithanaickenpalayam, near Sulur, organised a demonstration here on Friday condemning the delay in construction of a bus shelter and community hall. Sellakarasal panchayat president Dhandapani, and Karthi, Councillor, participated. They said that the district administration must complete the work, which was remaining suspended for long. District panchayat chairman Kanagaraj and other officials explained the reason for the delay and promised to complete the works at the earliest.
Found hanging
R. Venkatachalapathy, 48, of Ganapathy was found hanging at his residence on Friday morning. His wife Sumithara who found him hanging informed the Saravanampatty Police, who have registered a case.
Body identified
The police have established the identity of the youth found dead under suspicious circumstances in Ravuthur a few days ago, as Manikandan, 26, a native of Tirunelveli. He was wanted in a few cases. The police were yet to establish whether he was murdered.
Car stolen
Hakkim (40), Sivasamy (44), and Abdul Gafur (42) have lodged a complaint stating that the car in which they were travelling was forcibly taken away by a five-member gang after assaulting them. They were on way to Kerala from Bangalore.
They said that Rs. 25 lakh they were carrying too was robbed.
The police said that the three were gave contradictory statements regarding the cash.
Body found
The body of a man, estimated to be in his 50s, was found on the railway tracks near Brooke Bond Road. The Coimbatore Railway Police said that he was carrying a train ticket that mentioned Kottayam to Mumbai.
Child killed
G. Subbu (two-and-half years) died on Thursday at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital here. He was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday after he fell into a well at NSM Palayam in Periyanaickenpalayam Police Station limits.
The police said that Subbu’s mother G. Sumithra (25) and uncle R. Mohan (26) too had fallen into the well. All were admitted to the hospital.
Girl kidnapped
The police have registered a case against Siva Ramalingam (23) of Mudhukulathur on the charge of kidnapping an 18-year-old girl. The police said that he was in love with the girl. His brother was an employee of the girl’s father Ramamoorthi, who managed a music troupe.
Man arrested
The police have arrested A. Abuthahir (33) of Karumbukkadai on the charge of robbing a person of his mobile phone. The police said that when Yadhu Krishnan of Ondipudur was near Perks School the accused approached him saying that he wanted to make an emergency call.
When Krishnan handed over the phone, Abuthahir fled the place. He was caught while trying to sell the phone.
