Field engineering training on forest watershed management for forest range officers commenced in Udhagamandalam on Wednesday.

The Regional Centre at the Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation (IISWC) here organised a capacity building programme on field engineering training for forest watershed management for forest range officer trainees of the state forest service on Wednesday.

The 12-day programme, which is sponsored by the Central Academy for State Forest Service, Coimbatore, will train 41 forest range officer trainees from the forest departments of Odisha, Karnataka, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. The officers are currently undergoing training at the Central Academy for State Forest Service, Coimbatore.

In a press release, the IISWC stated that the programme aimed at training the Assistant Conservator of Forest trainees of state governments to improve their knowledge and skills in planning and implementing watershed development projects in forest areas.

The programme was inaugurated by Srinivas R. Reddy, Managing Director of TANTEA, Coonoor. K Ilango, Conservator of Forests and lecturer from Central Academy for State Forest Service, Coimbatore, was the guest of honour at the event.
