Preparations are in full swing for the jallikattu to be held at Alagumalai in Tirupur on Sunday.

According to the organisers, around 500 bulls and 600 tamers have registered for the event so far and the process was continuing on Tuesday.

However, tamers from Tirupur and nearby localities will be not permitted to take part in the jallikattu.

S. Palanisamy of Alagumalai Jallikattu Welfare Association said that tamers within 20 km radius of Alagumalai have been restricted from participating as the sport was not common to Kongu region. He said that majority of the tamers registered for the jallikattu were from Madurai, Theni, Dindigul and Pudukottai districts.

Bulls famous for their jallikattu performance in other districts will also be part of the event at Alagumalai.

Insurance cover

The organisers of the jallikattu have arranged for a one-day group insurance policy with the New India Assurance with ₹1.75 lakh as premium. Under the insurance coverage, up to ₹15 lakh will be given as claim amount in the event of loss of lives of tamers or bulls.

Meanwhile, works are under way to prepare the venue for jallikattu at Chettipalayam in Coimbatore .

Foundation laid

S.P. Velumani, Minister for Municipal Administration and Rural Development, laid the foundation for the arrangements on January 26. Jointly organised by the district administration and the Coimbatore Jallikattu Peravai, the event will be held on February 10 and will witness the participation of over 700 bulls and as many tamers.
