Officials of the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) disconnected power supply to three bleaching units in Gangapuram for discharging effluents into drains without treating.

Officials received information that untreated effluents were discharged into drains and water bodies in the area.

A team led by District Environment Engineer M. Malayandi carried out inspections in the units in Gangapuram, Rasampalayam and Vettukattuvalasu and found the units discharging the untreated effluents into drains.

The issue was taken up with District Collector S. Prabhakar who ordered disconnection of power supply to the units.

Officials said members of the flying squad are continuously monitoring the tannery units, spinning and dyeing units to ensure zero liquid discharge. They warned of action if violations found.
