Pollachi Tamil Isai Sangam’s 33rd dance festival begins

The 33rd dance festival of the Pollachi Tamil Isai Sangam began here on Saturday.

The six-day dance festival features 11 dance performances by troupes from across the nation.

Various dance forms such as Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi and Mohiniattam will be performed by the artistes, said G. D. Gopalakrishnan, Honorary Secretary of the Sangam.

Former president of the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore, G.D. Gopalakrishnan participated as the chief guest and lauded the efforts of the Sangam in conducting the programme in a taluk headquarters. Inaugurating the dance festival, Pollachi sub-Collector Gayatri Krishnan called upon the audience to encourage their children to learn traditional arts and culture.

Ms. Gayatri Krishnan also conferred Natya Kalai Sudar title of the Sangam to Bharatanatyam artiste Badri Divya Bhushan, Director of Bhushans Academy of Performing Arts and Visual Presentation, Mysore.
