Commissioner exhorts men in uniform to pursue unfulfilled mission of the martyrs

Rich tributes was paid to police personnel who died in the line of duty here at the Police Commemoration Day observed here on Saturday.

IG and Police Commissioner A. Amalraj placed wreath at the Martyrs’ column at the Police Recruit School ground on Avanashi Road amid gun shots as a mark of respect.

Personnel in other ranks followed suit and paid their respects to the heroes who lost their lives in an ambush attack by Chinese troops at Hot Springs near Ladakh on October 21, 1959.

Since October 1, 2016 and till August 31, 2017, as many as 370 personnel in uniform both in police and paramilitary forces had lost their lives in the line of duty. The 370 martyrs belonged to 20 State police force and eight special police units in charge of specific responsibilities.

The martyrs’ day message exhorted the men in uniform to rededicate themselves to pursue the lofty ideals and unfulfilled mission of the martyrs and continue the good work that they had left behind.
