A new surveillance camera network consisting 200 cameras has come up with a mini control room based at Sundarapuram in the city.

The new network of cameras, some of them with face detection features, will be the biggest mini surveillance camera network which the police have established with the support of the public in the city. With the network to come up at Sundarapuram, a stretch of Pollachi main road will have a proper surveillance network in Coimbatore city police limits.

Earlier, the stretch lacked adequate number of road facing cameras which was a challenge for the police in surveillance and crime detection.

Police Commissioner Sumit Sharan said that works of the new network has been completed and it will be launched next week. He will also inaugurate a new police outpost which has been build at Sundarapuram junction.

The mini control room of the camera network has been arranged at the new police outpost.

The new network has been installed on four stretches from Sundarapuram. The first stretch covers the area between Kurichi tank and Sundarapuram junction. The second covers a portion of Sarada Mill Road from Sundarapuram junction. While the third stretch covers Sundarapuram to Sidco, the fourth covers Madukkarai market road.

According to officials involved in setting up the network, the cameras installed in the network are five mega pixel ones with night vision facility.
