Over 300 cadre of DMK including Singanallur MLA N. Karthick were removed by the police for staging an agitation in front of the Collectorate on Friday condemning the inordinate delay in completion of Rail Over Bridge (ROB) at SIHS Colony in Singanallur.

Former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi allocated Rs. 23 crore for construction of the ROB during 2010. After coming to power, the AIADMK government started the construction, but failed to acquire land for service roads on either sides of the bridge. The land owners adjacent to the ROB went to the court and obtained stay orders.

Due to this, the residents living in SIHS Colony in Singanallur, Neelikonampalayam and Nethaji Nagar are forced to take a detour to reach their destinations. School children and college students are finding it difficult to reach their institutions in time during peak hours.

Even for medical emergency, the ambulances have to travel a few more km to reach the hospitals. The works related to Gandhipuram Over Bridge, ROBs in Ganapathy Avarampalayam, Hopes College-Thanneerpandhal and Neelikonampalayam are either abandoned or going at snail’s pace only because they were started during the DMK rule, Mr. Karthick alleged. The cadre were released in the evening.
