Police register cases against Kongu Ilaingar Peravai cadre

A heated argument turned into a murderous attack over the issue of parking vehicles, with ten vehicles getting damaged and a few persons suffering injuries. The police have registered a case against seven persons, including three from the Tamil Nadu Kongu Ilaingar Peravai.

Trouble started in front of the party office on Sengupta Street in Ram Nagar where a pharmaceutical marketing firm is located.

It is learnt that when medical representatives parked their two-wheelers on either side of the road, party functionaries objected.

It is learnt that ten vehicles belonging to medical representatives were damaged. Even as the police were pacifying the representatives, two persons came on a four-wheeler and tried to enter the party office, resulting in heated exchange. The situation went out of control for a few minutes till the police strength arrived.

S. Dakshinamurthy, a medical representative, who witnessed the clash, said some persons coming out of the peravai office damaged motorcycles of representatives.

When the representatives protested, men armed with billhooks and wooden logs assaulted them. They did not spare even passersby. A medical representative from Ondipudur who sustained a head injury, fell unconscious. A few others sustained injuries on their nose and hand and had to be taken to hospital.

City Police Commissioner A.K. Viswanathan and Deputy Commissioner of Police R.V. Ramya Bharathi visited the site of clash. Cases were registered against party office-bearers Shankar, Paramasivam and Vivek Kumar for unlawful assembly, attempt to murder, criminal intimidation, causing damage to public property.

Kongu Ilaingar Peravai founder U. Thaniyarasu told The Hindu over phone that his partymen in Coimbatore were asked to conduct an inquiry.
