Complaints of cows disappearing from houses and farms

Special teams of the Coimbatore City Police, on Saturday, arrested two persons after a spate of complaints of cows going missing were received.

Residents of Vinayakapuram, Vilankurichi, Cheran Maanagar, Ganapathy Maanagar, Gandhi Maanagar, Police Quarters, Varadaraja Nagar and Udyampalayam had complained about their cows disappearing from their houses and farms.

Commissioner of Police A.K. Viswanathan and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) T. Senthil Kumar formed special teams.

The special teams conducted a vehicle check on Sathyamangalam Road and found a mini cargo vehicle carrying cows.

On being questioned, the occupants of the vehicle, A. Vignesh (27) and K. Karthikesan (24) of Rathinapuri gave contradicting versions.

Further interrogation revealed that the two stole cows and sold them at the cattle market at Andhiyur in Erode District and used the money to gamble and consume alcohol.

Based on their confession, the duo was taken to Andhiyur and all the 28 cows, worth nearly Rs. 10 lakh, were recovered, according to police sources.
