Police get custody of Maoist suspect

Coimbatore District Police have got custody of Maoist suspect C. Kannan of Madurai for four days from Monday evening. The police have taken him for questioning over his suspected involvement in helping Santhosh Kumar of Valparai to join the Maoist movement.

Last week the district police filed a petition before Principal District Judge R. Pongiappan (PDJ) seeking custody of Kannan for a week. Public Prosecutor (in-charge) P.E. Augustus said that in the absence of the PDJ the petition was taken up by I Additional District Judge R. Sakthivel on Monday.

Mr. Sakthivel granted police custody of Kannan for four days - till 4 p.m. on July 3.
