The road over bridge at Podanur, which was under construction since 2015 December, was thrown open for the public on Monday. Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami inaugurated through video conferencing the road over bridge constructed at a cost of ₹31.93 crore.

According to officials of the Highways Department here, the 533 metres long bridge has 1.25 km of approach roads. The width of the main carriageway is 11 metres, making it slightly wider than a regular two-lane road. Lands were acquired for ₹12 lakh as private lands acquired were less and the project has a service road too.

The bridge was scheduled to be completed by mid last year.

The official sources added that electrical and lighting works on the bridge would be completed in a couple of months. The appraoch road is damaged for about 100 metres due to leak in a pipeline. The road has to be re-laid for this short stretch and bitumen topping taken up. This is expected to be done in two weeks.

An official press release said the bridge will benefit those residing in Podanur, Vellalore, Sundarapuram, Mettur, Konavaikalpalayam, Kurichi, and Chettipalayam areas. It will bring down traffic congestion in North Coimbatore-Podanur-Chettipalayam road.
