July 19, 2012 01:48 pm | Updated 01:48 pm IST - COIMBATORE:

The Pattali Makkal Katchi will hold an exhibition on prohibition in the city on Friday, said the party leader G.K. Mani. Addressing journalists in Coimbatore on Wednesday, he said that the exhibition was part of the campaign the party had launched towards enforcement of prohibition.

Party leader and president S. Ramadoss will inaugurate the exhibition in the presence of heads of religious institutions and social activists. He appealed to the students to visit the exhibition to spread awareness on the evils of alcoholism.

On Thursday Dr. Ramadoss will hold a protest in Erode to highlight the need for letting farmers determine the price of turmeric. The protest will be held in front of the Collectorate there.

Mr. Mani also said that Central Government must initiate efforts to ensure that the U.S. military personnel who killed a Tamil fisherman and injured others must be brought to book. The entire State was agitated over the incident.

Similarly, the people of the State were also agitated over the Sri Lankan army officers taking part in the conference at the Madras Regimental Centre in Wellington. The Central Government should not just send them out of Tamil Nadu but India in deference to the sentiments of the people.

He also wanted the Central Government to prevent the Kerala Government from constructing a dam across River Siruvani. Members of the party including State deputy secretary Thangavel Pandian were present.
