As part of Gandhipuram flyover project

Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) will take the overhead extra high tension 110 KV power cables on 100-feet road underground as part of the Gandhipuram flyover project.

The underground cable work, which will be taken up at a cost of Rs. 20 crore for two km from Tatabad Power House to Pappanaikenpalayam, will be completed by January next year if the project is taken up as per schedule, according to an official of the corporation.

Highways Department has started the Gandhipuram flyover works and the overhead power cables on one side of Nanjappa Road, for about a kilometre from Gandhipuram junction towards Park Gate junction, have been taken underground. This is to avoid crossing of the cables at two or three locations on the stretch, the official said.

Sub-station

In the case of 100-feet road, the proposal is to construct a sub-station at Pappanaikenpalayam and terminate the underground extra high tension cables there. About 70 cents of Coimbatore Corporation has been identified for the purpose. However, the project has not progressed because of a legal issue.

The project can be taken forward without change in plan and cost or schedule revision if the legal issue is resolved soon. The work will be executed by the Highways Department and supervised by the Tangedco officials, the official said.
