Piyush Manush, an activist, on Friday appeared before a magistrate court in connection with the defamation case filed by Isha Foundation.

The Foundation had in December last year filed a criminal defamation suit against Mr. Manush for spreading falsehood through his “defamatory post in social media.”

Isha Foundation’s lawyer P. Maheshkumar said that the activist had alleged that the Foundation had encroached upon elephant corridor, insinuated its involvement in a few suspicious deaths and had claimed that the call to the number used in the ‘Rally for Rivers’ campaign was actually for enrolment in the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Based on the case filed and evidence submitted, the court acknowledged that the petitioner has prima facie made out a case and took it up for hearing. On the first day on Friday, the court, presided by Magistrate K. Kumarasivam presented a copy of the complaint to Mr. Manush and posted the case for further hearing on February 1, 2019.

Talking to reporters outside the court, the activist claimed that Isha had filed documents acknowledging construction of buildings on the elephant corridor. He said that he was confident of winning the case.
