PDK to protest against LIC

Periyar Dravida Kazhagam (PDK) has said that it would protest against the Life Insurance Corporation of India on Friday if it did not give up the proposal to “impose” Hindi.

Official language

In a release, the organisation said that it had come to learn that the South Zone administration of LIC, as part of the Official Language Implementation programme, had asked all employees to sign and communicate in writing in Hindi on Mondays. It had cited that Hindi communication was negligible in the South Zone and that the proposal was part of the efforts to encourage the use of Hindi.

The release said that the move was against the assurance the former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru gave the southern states. It would begin with Mondays, spread throughout and lead to complete imposition of Hindi.

The organisation had also said that it would hold the protest at 10 a.m. in front of the zonal office on Trichy Road if the order was not withdrawn.
