The Corporation has been forced to scout for a new land for parking lorries. The civic body had identified a land near the Vellalore dump yard to shift the lorries that now use the land in what is known as Lorry Pettai, near Ukkadam.

The move to shift the lorries was aimed at decongesting the Ukkadam-Athupalam Road. Corporation sources said that the civic body was asked to do so as it would become unviable to house both the integrated bus stand and lorry parking site in Vellalore.

The Corporation had proposed an integrated bus stand in Vellalore. According to sources, the civic body had written to the district administration and HR&CE Department asking if they had land that could be used for parking the lorries. The civic body was already on the look out for land to shift the Omni Bus Stand as the Gandhipuram flyover work needed a portion of the bus stand premises.
