Nine months after the death of two schoolgirls due to drowning, their parents petitioned the District Collector seeking an inquiry after a photo of the two posing near the river was circulated in social media.

A. Oviya (14), daughter of Arusamy and Lakshmi, and K. Suganthi (16), daughter of Kariyan and Veerammal, both from Maikalpalayam in Anthiyur, studying class 8 and SSLC respectively, were friends. On January 1, both left for temple, but did not return home. Later, their bodies were found 15 km away from their home in Bhavani River at Mungilpatti village. Police registered a case of drowning.

Recently, a photo of the two girls taken by an unidentified person near the river was found circulated in social media.

Suspecting that the girls could have been murdered, their parents lodged a complaint with Appakudal police. But police, quoting post-mortem report, told them that the two died of drowning and the case was closed.

However, their parents said that the photo was taken on the day when both went missing and submitted a petition to the Collector demanding an inquiry in this connection.
