Over 1,000 students from 26 schools in the State and neighbouring Puducherry took part in the 18th inter-school band competition held at Yuva Bharathi Public School ground on Sunday.
The competition was organised by the Rotary Club of Coimbatore in association with the Coimbatore District Sports and Games Association. Shree Saraswathi Vidya Mandir School in Mettupalayam was the overall champions in the boys and girls category, said Vijay Balasundaram, secretary of the Rotary Club.
Avila Convent Matriculation Higher Secondary School was the winners in the girls category.
A special band team from Puducherry was also one among the participants.
The competition was inaugurated by Rotary District 3201 District Governor nominee Jose Chacko.
City Police Commissioner K. Periaiah was the chief guest at the valedictory and he distributed prizes to the winning teams.
