One killed, three hurt in accident on Tiruchi Road

One person was killed and three others sustained injuries when a motorcycle and moped collided on Tiruchi Road near Sulur on Saturday night.

According to the police, Joy (21), along with his brother John (20) of Kannampalayam, near Sulur, was travelling on a motorcycle, which collided with a moped. In the impact, Joy, who was thrown off the vehicle, died on the spot because of head injury.

John and the moped riders Ravikumar (40) and Vijaykumar (38), who sustained injuries, have been admitted to the hospital and investigations are on.

Arrested

The Prohibition Enforcement Wing police have arrested Shanmugam (60), Mani (55), and another Shanmugam (55), farm owners, on charges of possession and sale of toddy. The police recovered 13 litres of toddy. Investigations are on.

Found dead in train

Railway workers, who hauled the coaches of the Nagercoil – Coimbatore train to the yard on Sunday morning for the routine cleaning and maintenance works found a 50-year-old man lying dead in berth 20 of Coach S3.

A PDS family card carried by the passenger revealed that it could be Radhakrishnan (50), of Alankulam in Sivakasi taluk of Virudhunagar district.

There was a ticket from Sattur to Coimbatore. Investigations are on and police suspect the death to be due to cardiac arrest.

Held for stealing jewellery

Ayyappan (42), of Ganapathy, was arrested on charges of stealing 6.5-sovereign jewellery from a showroom on Cross Cut Road in the city.

It is learnt that the man who came under the pretext of buying jewels saw some jewellery and left the place under the pretext of not being impressed with the designs.

However, on realising that a jewellery was missing, the shopkeepers rushed out of the shop and nabbed the person only to find the jewellery on his person. Investigations are on.

Man accused of bigamy

Pollachi police are probing into a complaint against Kadirvel (42) by his wife Nachiammal (39) on charges of having married another woman, a relative of the accused.

The complainant said that her husband after 20 years of marriage had got married to a relative without her knowledge and consent. Investigations are on.
