As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, the National Textile Corporation is constructing 35 toilets across the country.
Nodal officer for the project A. Arulsamy told The Hindu that the Corporation would build the toilets at a cost of about Rs. 30 lakh. It had chosen schools, mainly those for girls, for the project in five locations.
These were in rural areas, such as Paramakudi, Tirupathi, Mahi and Burakpur.
The number of schools covered in each area and the number of toilets per schools were based on the requirement.
While the units at Paramakudi and Kalayar Koil have been handed over to the schools, construction will be completed in the other areas by May 15.
It was decided to build the toilets under the Prime Minister’s Clean India initiative across the country. In Tamil Nadu, NTC has seven textile mills.
