The Nilgiri Mountain Railway service from Mettupalayam to Coonoor, which was cancelled on Sunday, resumed on Monday.

It was cancelled on Sunday as a huge tree got uprooted in the rain and fell on the track, damaging a portion of it.

Sources said the train, with 143 passengers, started from the Mettupalayam station at 7.10 a.m. on Sunday.

When it reached a place between the Hill Grove and Adderley at 8.45 a.m., railway staff found the huge tree on the track .

Railway staff rushed to the spot and started clearing the tree. However, the train was taken back to the Kallar station as the work was likely to consume more time.

The ticket fare was refunded to passengers and alternative arrangements to reach Ooty on road were made. Train service was cancelled for the rest of the day.
