Nine child workers rescued in Avarampalayam

Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of the Coimbatore City Police on Friday raided industrial units in and around Avarampalayam and rescued nine boys who were found working in steel and metal units.

The drive was conducted by the AHTU of the City Police in association with officers from the Labour Department.

The rescued boys belonged to Coimbatore, Karur, Tiruchirapalli, Tirunelveli and Pudukottai. Boys below the age of 14 were sent to Don Bosco Anbu Illam and those above 14 years are being referred to the Child Welfare Committees.

Accused nabbed

Syed Dasthagir (32) of Thiruvottiyur in Chennai was detained by the immigration officials at Coimbatore Airport on Friday, when he arrived by an Air Arabia flight from Sharjah. It is learnt that Thiruvottiyur police in Chennai are on the look out for him in a case of criminal intimidation and dowry harassment. Police have informed their counterparts in Chennai to hand over the accused.
