Volunteers from a few non-governmental organisations, with the help of the civic body, removed garbage from the Kurichi tank on Sunday.

Garbage dumped along the Kurichi water tank was cleared by volunteers from various non-governmental organisations with the assistance of civic body officials.

Volunteers, who found gunny bags filled with poultry waste, construction debris and medical waste dumped along the Kurichi tank on Saturday, alerted the Corporation.

Following this, Corporation Commissioner G. Latha deputed conservancy workers and trucks to carry out the work. Volunteers from Noyyal Conservation Association, Wildlife Safety Nest and Save Coimbatore Wetlands assisted in removing the loads. The volunteers said that because of the ongoing examination, many could not make it to the cleaning drive. After the examination gets over, a sustained drive would be taken up to clean the entire water body, they said.
