To effectively implement solid waste management in the city, the Corporation inducted 25 new vehicles recently for transporting the collected garbage to the designated disposal yard.

About 250 tonnes of municipal waste is generated in all the 60 wards in the city limits that is collected from door to door basis and also from bins. The Corporation has proposed to remove all the dustbins by the end of the year and ensure that the city is free of dustbins.

Hence, it had recently inducted 30 battery-operated vehicles for garbage collection on narrow streets, and is in the process of inducting more vehicles to collect garbage and transport it to the compost yard. It had also launched a Facebook page and a twitter account to enable people to register complaints regarding non-disposal of waste and prevailing sanitation in their areas.

Officials said that the new vehicles would help transport the garbage to the yard without delay where it would be segregated into degradable and biodegradable, processed and converted as fertilizers. They added that more vehicles would be inducted soon so that the city would free of dustbins by this year end.
