Nearly a lakh additions to voters’ list in Coimbatore

Voters’ list in the district has 94,174 additions. The district administration released the draft voters’ list containing the additions at the Coimbatore Collectorate on Monday.

Among the 10 Assembly constituencies in the district, Kavundampalayam had seen the maximum additions at 15,413 followed by Singanallur at 12,521. Coimbatore North came a close third with 11,370 additions and the least addition was in Valparai at 5,235, said a release from the administration.

When the administration invited applications from eligible persons for enrolment with January 1, 2015 as the cut-off date, it had received 1,16,657 applications. It had also received 1,402 applications for deletion of names, 17,104 to correct entries and 7,075 for change of address.

With the addition and deletion of names, the total number of voters in the district stood at 26,87,303. Among those 13,42,345 were men. Women were more in number by 2,511. The third gender accounted for 102.

The release added that for the new voters, the district administration would provide electoral photo identity cards from January 25, 2015, when it celebrated National Voters’ Day. For others, it would start issuing the cards from January 19.

Voters wanting to check the voters’ list could access them at the respective Revenue Divisional Office, Tahsildar office or polling booth.

Our Special Correspondent from Udhagamandalam adds: The revised electoral rolls pertaining to Udhagamandalam, Gudalur (SC) and Coonoor Assembly constituencies were released by the District Election Officer and The Nilgiris Collector P.Sankar here on Monday.

The total number of electors in the rolls was 5,50,047 including 2,69,580 men 2,80,467 women. At the time of the elections to the Lok Sabha in 2014, the total number of voters was 5,43,533 including 2,67,493 men and 2,76,040 women. The first copy of the revised electoral roll was received by the District Revenue Officer D.Baskara Pandiyan.

Our Staff Reporter from Tirupur adds: The new photo electoral rolls released by the district administration on Monday has 20,04,953 voters (10,10,860 men, 9,93,970 women and 123 others) in eight Assembly constituencies in the district, an increase of 66,858 persons over the previous voters’ list released on October 15, 2014.

As per the new list, Palladam Assembly constituency has the largest electorate of 3,12,461 (1,59,147 men, 1,53,297 women and 17 others) among the eight Assembly segments.

The Madathukulam constituency has the lowest with a total of 2,13,393 voters (1,06,281 men, 1,07,107 women and 5 others).

Following is the data for the remaining constituencies: Dharapuram - 2,33,847 voters (1,15,981 men, 1,17,862 women and 4 others); Kangayam - 2,25,570 voters (1,10,245 men, 1,12,311 women and 14 others); Avinashi- 2,38,282 voters (1,18,492 men, 1,19,776 women and 14 others); Tirupur North - 3,07,928 voters (1,60,239 men, 1,47,649 women and 40 others); Tirupur South - 2,36,303 voters (1,21,849 men, 1,14,434 women and 20 others); Udumalpet - 2,40,169 voters (1,18,626 men, 1,21,534 women and 9 others).
