Says the project is essential to meet drinking water needs in the region

Perundurai MLA Thoppu N.D. Venkatachalam on Sunday submitted a petition to District Collector C. Kathiraven urging the district administration to complete the Kodiveri Combined Water Supply Scheme at the earliest.

In his petition, Mr. Venkatachalam said that the claims by the farmers from Thadapalli and Arakkan Kottai that irrigation of farm lands would be affected due to the scheme were false. He said the scheme was essential to meet the drinking water needs in the region and alleged that drawing water from the canal using high power motor pumps and unscientific farming led to reduction in farm lands irrigated by the canal.

Mr. Venkatachalam said that farmers within the district should not be fighting for water and it would turn the State’s efforts to get water from Karnataka meaningless. Over 1,000 farmers and residents from various villages gathered at the Collectorate on Sunday expressing support to Mr. Venkatachalam.
