Missing two declared non traceable

Disrtict Collector M. Mathivanan said that two of the persons reported missing in the floods had been declared as ‘not traceable' and a solatium of Rs. 2 lakh each, on the same scale given to the family of those who died in the rain/floods, was handed over to their respective kin.

Of the nine persons who were washed away by flash floods in the city on Monday, the bodies of seven were recovered while M. Shanmugam (45) and M.I. Abutahir (35) could not be traced.

Mr. Mathivanan said that the recent rain and floods had taken away the lives of seven persons in Tirupur city and one each in Kangeyam and Palladam. “We have completed the distribution of relief to the entire kin of the deceased,” he added.

Abutahir's solatium was handed over to his parents as well as wife Thilsath Begum's parents. Begum and two children had died in the rain. Mr. Mathivanan said it was estimated that 600 country fowls/broiler chicken and 11 goats were killed in the floods.

“We have compensated the owners at the rates of Rs. 2,000 for each of the goats and Rs. 100 for each of the fowls,” he added.

The Collector said that packets containing 10 kg rice, one litre kerosene, a dhoti, a sari and Rs. 1,000 were distributed to 1,853 flood-hit families in the city.

This apart, medical screening was conducted on over 8,000 people in those colonies that got inundated, with the help of government doctors and members of Indian Medical Association.

S. Chandrasekaran, additional commissioner of municipal administration, added that there was no break out of any diseases. Only a handful of people were referred to District Headquarters hospital for blood pressure check-up and fever, he said.
