Minor girls missing from school


Two 14-year-old girl students of a school near Valparai were reportedly missing from the institution from Thursday.

Valparai Police Inspector A. Jayaraman said that the school remained closed on the day due to some celebration and that the girls, who were staying in the hostel were in the study hall shortly before they went missing.

It is learnt that the girls also did not go to their homes in Coimbatore.

A search was launched for the missing girls based on a complaint lodged by the head warden of the hostel.

Case registered

Kuniyamuthur Police registered a case against 14 students of a private engineering college on charges of assaulting a former student of the college following a wordy duel between them and the victim I. Indhuprabakaran (24) and his friend at the college canteen on Tuesday.

The students were booked under sections 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting armed with deadly weapon), 341 (wrongful restraint), 294B (abusive language), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 506(ii) (threatening) of the Indian Penal Code.

Action sought

Tense moments prevailed at Sulur police station on Friday when a group of people from Arasur thronged the station seeking action against a youth who allegedly tried to misbehave with a woman. However, the police said that the man accused of misbehaving with the woman was a mason and that he had pulled the woman’s hand thinking it was a fellow worker at the construction site. He was warned and let off, after which the agitators left the place.
